Counselor in Training (CIT)

The Counselor-in-training program is designed for older middle school students who are ready to step into leadership. CITs support younger campers, assist with activities, and help create a positive, inclusive camp environment. This is a hands-on opportunity to build confidence, develop leadership and teamwork skills, and gain meaningful volunteer experience—all while being part of the fun and energy of Camp Oceanlight. CITs must be able to hike for up to 2 hours.

Volunteer Counselor

Volunteer Counselors support camp staff in creating a safe, fun, and engaging experience for all campers. They assist with activities, help supervise small groups, and support transitions, outdoor exploration, and group games. This role is ideal for high school students who enjoy working with children and want to gain experience in leadership, teamwork, and love science. Volunteers are expected to model positive behavior, take initiative, and contribute to an inclusive camp environment. Counselors will receive mentorship from experienced educators while building valuable skills and earning volunteer hours to fulfill school requirements and enhance college applications. Applicants should be reliable, have a positive attitude, and be able to hike for up to 2 hours.

Camp Counselor

Counselors lead small groups of campers through hands-on marine science activities, outdoor exploration, and team-building experiences. This role is ideal for high school and college students who enjoy working with children, love the outdoors, and are excited about experiential learning and caring for the environment. Counselors will receive training and mentorship from credentialed educators and gain valuable experience in teaching, leadership, and youth development.
